score analysis

The French Sex Murders is a classic Giallo that falls head first into the "so bad it's good" category. The film features an urban French landscape, an abundance of female flesh, a police inspector who is purposely made up to look like Humphrey Bogart, a few crazily laughable murder sequences, and some of the worst English dubbing ever. Genre favorites Barbara Bouchet and Rosalba Neri have only minor parts in the film, but seeing their names on the credit list is enough to spark the interest of most Giallo fans.

The film registers high marks on the score for the inclusion of many of the genre's tropes and it is only because of the exclusion of the amateur detective and Ferdinando Merighi "one-and-done" status as a Giallo director that keep the film out of the 90s.

Fans of the genre looking for production values on the level of Bird with the Crystal Plumage or What Have You Done to Solange? might find themselves disappointed, but if you're a fan of Strip Nude for Your Killer this film will be right up your alley. Just be sure to pour a tall glass of J&B before you sit down to watch.
