Argentinian film director Tulio Demicheli, mostly known for his Spaghetti Westerns, throws his hat into the Giallo ring with this tightly scripted and well produced mystery. Genre staples George Hilton and Anita Strindberg join Fernando Rey and Luciana Paluzzi to create a very watchable cast of characters.

 

 

The film feels very much like a Sergio Martino Giallo but the body count is low and after the initial crimes are committed the film focuses its attention on solving the mystery rather than following the continuing savagery of a killer on the loose. Nevertheless, Demicheli assembles a few riveting sequences including a suspenseful stalking scene, some white knuckle high speed driving, and a thoroughly squirm inducing surgery scene which contains actual open-heart surgery footage. The resolution of the third act, and ultimately the unmasking of the killer, is orchestrated with style and although there are only a few suspects, the film manages to keep the viewer guessing until the end.
